Thank you for visiting!
I am an old woman, named after my mother. That's actually true but a story for another day. But speaking of family, I grew up with brothers much older than me, who came of age in the early 70's. The awesome music, the clothes, the attitude were all part of the hippy seed they unknowingly sowed in me. I can't remember the first tie dye I ever made but I'm sure it involved a pot on the stove and some RIT dye mom bought me. Fast forward A LOT of Grateful Dead Show and A LOT of years to the dumpster fire we call 2020. Quarantine left me working from home and a lot of extra time on my hands. Soooo out came the dye and here we are. In a world where black and white seems to be the only currency exchanged, I offer you some color. Thanks for looking!
You may have heard me say this if you’ve visited the Grateful Dyeworks booth at an event. Penny is a treasured member of my chosen family and partner in crime in tie dye land. We both rediscovered the art during lockdown but like mine, Penny’s history with tie dye goes back to childhood. In her Girl Scout days “There was a big pot, one color of RIT dye, and some rubber bands. You stirred it around and somehow it was magic”.
Penny’s adult life had been spent utilizing her left brain skills in service to her fellow humans. Fortunately for us, she’s now able to able to focus on her right brain, letting her creativity awaken again. And I’m so glad it did!
Her dyes are the “bright and shiny” to my “dark and twisty”. This allows us to offer such a wide array of dyes on the website and in our booth at shows. So as you wander through either the website or the booth and see a P on a piece of work that speaks to you, you’ve met Penny!
